Safety Training Lessons

Here at Reins on Manes, students learn, grow, and develop in a safe atmosphere. When interacting with horses, knowledge and preparedness will enable a rider to use their judgment and make better decisions regarding both their safety and the safety of their equine partner. All students will participate in a Safety Training Lesson in horsemanship as well as a Windfall Ranch Orientation.

During this course, students will gain insight on how to safely approach, handle, and ride horses. Families and students are educated on basic safety rules and emergency protocol for Windfall Ranch. Students will also learn safety skills including but not limited to emergency dismounting procedures, how to approach a horse in the paddock, how to tie quick-release knots, and how to ride safely in group settings. All students are asked to reflect back to their Safety Guidelines often to ensure they understand how to have fun in a safe way.

Safety Guidelines

Students are asked to consider these guidelines when making decisions at Reins on Manes:

Always wear an ASTM/SEI- approved helmet with chin strap fastened.

Riding Attire

Proper riding attire can save a rider from discomfort associated with scratches and irritations to the skin. Wearing long pants during all forms of riding will protect your legs and skin from rubbing against the saddle, from bushes out on the trail, and from bugs and sun exposure. Wearing closed-toed shoes is essential when riding a horse. Sandals do not provide your foot with the support it needs to remain in the stirrup. Riding barefoot is never safe.
